The neurologist Dr. Nadir Syed passes to the 60s

Dr. Nadir Ali Syed, an outstanding Pakistani neurologist and a member of the Senior Faculty of the Aga Khan University, died in Karachi unexpectedly this morning at the age of 60 years.

According to family sources, Dr. Syed went to the bathroom and closed the door. When he did not respond for a prolonged period, the door forced to open and was found without responding.

Dr. Syed was declared dead on the scene. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Dr. Syed was widely known for his work in adult neurology, particularly in the treatment of epilepsy, stroke and headache disorders.

More recently, he worked as a clinical neurologist at the South City hospital and was part -time faculty at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Aga Khan University.

Student of the Karachi Grammar School, Dr. Syed graduated with honors of the MBBS program of the Aga Khan University Hospital.

He then addressed the United States for clinical training in neurology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey, where he was appointed Head of Resident in one of the main neurology programs in the country.

Later he completed a two -year scholarship in clinical neurophysiology in the National Health Institutes (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, the world’s largest biomedical research institution, where he obtained experience in complex neurological diagnoses.

In 1998, Dr. Syed returned to Pakistan to join the Faculty of Neurology in Akuh.

He was a key taxpayer for the development of the neuroscience curriculum and presided over the committee of the University’s neuroscience module.

Dr. Syed also served as postgraduate medical education associate, directed the Akuh Neurology section to become the largest neurology department in the country.

Dr. Syed was a diploma of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Neurology), the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (Clinical Neurophysiology).

He is the author of more than 25 international research publications and received numerous awards for his academic, clinical and educational contributions.
