Rawalpindi:
The recently launched electronic registration transfer system for all types of cars and motorcycles has failed just after deployment on September 1, 2025.
Between September 1 and 20, the new system reversed the transfers for 428 vehicles that had been sold and paid in its entirety, legally restoring the paper property to the former owners.
The application, developed under the Punjab Information Technology Board requires the seller to register the vehicle registration number, the name and address of the new owner, and confirm the transfer with biometric verification; Then, the application requires the entry of motor and chassis numbers and the complete data of the vehicle. But users reported “numerous technical defects”, and the application could not delete and retain property data, which caused automatic reversal. As a result, buyers now need the cooperation of the former owners to repeat the entire transfer process.
Technical problems have led a large number of citizens to stop vehicle transfer procedures under the motorized vehicle transfer inspection system, which makes the government lose millions of rupees in daily income, according to department sources.
