- Increase in the volumes of the greatly reduced cabinet and resonance
- New AMT high frequency unit and serious improved medium range controllers
- From £ 549 (around $ 730 / au $ 1,125)
Wharfedale has significantly updated its best -selling Evo speakers, and the new fifth -generation Evocest speakers come with a very important visual update and audio updates.
There are five models in the range: two standmount speakers (Evo 5.1 and 5.2), two floors (Evo 5.3 and 5.4) and a speaker Center Center (Evo 5.C). They are beautiful things and come in new color options, but what happened inside is what really matters here.
Wharfedale Evos already faced face to face with speakers that cost considerably more money, and these fifth generation versions promise to sound even better.
Wharfedale Evo 5 speakers: key features and prices
The first update is for the air movement transformer (AMT), which Wharfedale uses instead of Domos Tweeters: it is a pleated diaphragm that apparently pushes four times more air than the comparable traditional tweeters, which offer a lower distortion and faster transient responses. Wharfedale says that it also produces a broader frequency range and excellent horizontal dispersion.
The Evo 5 version is larger than before, 35×70 mm compared to 30×60 mm in Evo 4, and offers improved efficiency and dispersion. Behind is Silentweave’s new damping, which should reduce the reflexes of the sound waves inside the speaker.
There are more from where Silentweave comes: Restart and resosal, also new for Evo 5, are a new acoustic cushion frame and a damping ring, respectively, and aim to help the drive units to offer a softer response.
The average range controller is redesigned for the fifth generation, with the aforementioned reverse and the Silentweave. And low -decoration controllers use the advanced low -distortion engine system that is first seen in the flagship models. That is combined with a 130 mm or 150 mm woven Kevlar cone depending on the speaker model and a low -loss rubber edge for a lower and low middle range low.
The crossovers have also redesigned and benefit from a redesigned circuit plate that offers a shorter route length between the components and the drive units. In three -way models, that is divided into separate PCBs for the medium/acute and for the lows to reduce electromagnetic interference.
The design of the low reflex comes from the most premium aura and elíseos ranges in Wharfedale, with a groove at the speaker base instead of a more conventional front or rear port. Where Evo 4 was ventilated in two directions, Evo 5 was ventilated in three, which according to Wharfedale optimizes the distribution of air flow for deep, articulated and well integrated lows. The design also causes the speakers to be “less fellbill” about the placement that conventionally ported designs.
The cabinets are larger than their Evo 4 counterparts and are made of a wood sandwich of different density to reduce the resonance of the panel to inaudible levels and reduce the escape of unwanted sound energy. And in the lower part there is a hybrid metal/wood zócalo for rigidity and insulation.
The walnut wood option is transported in Evo 4, but black and white are now matt of high quality super quality and there is a new Matt option called Lunar Gray.
Evo 5 speakers will be available from June 2025. Prices are:
- Evo 5.1: £ 549
- Evo 5.2: £ 749
- Evo 5.3: £ 1099 by torque
