- YouTube is testing a subscription of two people
- It costs less than two individual subscriptions and less than a family plan
- It is currently available in France, Taiwan, India and Hong Kong
Currently, YouTube is testing a two -people YouTube premium membership in selected countries that allows two people to divide a subscription without continuing with a family plan.
Like the Spotify duo, the level of two YouTube people allows two people who live together to divide a subscription at a cost that is lower than if both subscribe separately, and also cheaper than a complete family plan.
YouTube told TechCrunch that it is part of the company’s experiments that seek “new ways to provide greater flexibility and value to our YouTube premium subscribers.”
For example, in France, one of the evidence, an individual plan costs € 12.99 per month and a family plan is € 23.99, while a plan of two people is € 19.99.
According to these prices, we would expect a duo plan based in the United States for perhaps $ 18.99 (for which perhaps £ 16.99 or Au $ 26.99), although we will have to see if Youtube considers that the test is a success or not.
If you want to try this subscription of two people sooner rather than later, you must live in India, France, Taiwan or Hong Kong.
Otherwise, you will want to divide a family plan or opt for another of the YouTube cost reduction experiments, YouTube Lite. That plan has just implemented in the USA. And it costs $ 7.99 per month, compared to $ 13.99 per month for a complete plan.
It allows you to see “the majority of” videos without ads, but does not include musical videos without ads, access to YouTube music or background background reproduction. Therefore, it is ideal if you want Youtube Premium but already has access to a music transmission service.
Duo sounds perfect for me and my partner, since while we use some transmission services, in which we trust is YouTube.
I had thought about hooking a premium plan for a while, but an individual account each is too much, and a family plan feels like exaggerated. But I’m not sure that I am ready to pay YouTube.
While the ads have worsened, they are generally (generally) far from being unbearable in my experience, and certainly not so bad that I would consider jumping to pay anything to pay $ 13.99 / £ 12.99 / au $ 16.99 per month, or even divide a duo plan.
The biggest advantage would be an offline video, but I can only see that it is essential when I am on a flight, which has sometimes been so far this year, but not enough to guarantee pay every month.
To that end, I am waiting for something really essential of YouTube Premium that raises the previous experience simply without advertising. As tempting that it is the duo plan, it is not yet enough to seal the treatment for me.
