Meaco has launched a new portable fan with a very welcome update: the battery can be removed and replaced. That means it should be good to stay fresh for many years. Less electronic waste and a more sustainable product life cycle are better news for the planet, but it is also good to know that its fan is built to stay.
Meaco manufactures some of the best fans we have tried, and the portable Meacofan Sefte 8in is the latest incorporation into the winter range of the brand. It joins the table fans and pedestal of 10 inches larger, as a more compact and light option with a smaller footprint and a shorter profile.
With an engine without quiet and poor energy brushes, Seffte 8in is designed to be as cheaper as possible. It can be used wireless or cable, but disconnected offers up to 17 hours of use with a single load.
There are also several characteristics designed to make it very appropriate for use at night: there is a night mode that disables lights and sounds, and magnetic remote control shines in the dark, so you must adjust the configuration in the wood, you can do it without having to put a light. Meaco has also made the lowest levels (1-4) on purpose, so they are suitable for short-range use, while higher levels (5+) have more strength.
Technically, this is an air circulator instead of a fan, which means that it is designed to project a narrow air ray on a long road, bouncing it from the walls and ceilings, offering a uniform temperature around the room (in contrast, traditional fans move a wide arc of air, but not far).
A battery impulse
A battery hatch could spoil the appearance of a high -end product, but Meaco has taken time on the design and has integrated it elegantly. The lid has spread to follow the perimeter of the base, so it is mixed and looks like a subtle design that blooms.
At this point, it is quite rare to see devices with accessible batteries. However, that is about to change in the EU at least: the next regulation of the European Union requires that all electronic products offer easily replaceable batteries by 2027. Meo is ahead of the curve here, but I hope to see more appliances built with longevity … even if it is due to legal requirements.
A replaceable battery is particularly good news in a fan, because the batteries tend to lose their capacity if it does not charge them quite regularly. That is a danger with fans, that people tend to appear in a closet and forget during the winter months.
We are in the process of reviewing the Mecofan Sefte 8in to see how it works in practice. It comes with a list price of £ 79.99 and will be available to buy directly to Meco, as well as through Amazon, as of June 17. Mecofan 1056p and 1056 fans are also available in the US, but due to economic uncertainty, there are no current plans to launch Sefte 8in there.
