Astell & Kern In-Oar New Luna monitors are the type of audio product that saddens me, because it is likely to sound amazing, and like many of the best headphones with audiophile cable, they are beyond my budget.
The new moon inspired by the Moon is the third set of headphones in the IEM series of Astell & Kern, and are the most luxurious who listen to the firm so far. Where the previous flagship AK Zero 2 uses a “quadruple” configuration with four different types of controllers, there is only one driver here: a flat magnetic.

Each of the titanium outbreaks here contains a Micro Planar Katabiki magnetic controller specially developed specially developed, which Astell & Kern created in collaboration with Madoo. It is a unipolar magnetic circuit with a single magnet and a dual ring -shaped yoke, which Astell & Kern says that it offers “superlative control.”
The idea with flat magnetic controllers is that they use a larger, flat and ultra -thin diaphragm compared to regular dynamic controllers. They are capable of a deeper serious response and surprising details compared to dynamic controllers, but are difficult to produce.
The flat diaphragm housing is CNC machined aluminum for rigidity, and the Ultra Delgado diaphragm is made of a light film and an aluminum pattern printed for a significantly reduced weight.
According to Astell & Kern, they offer an outstanding speed, an exceptional audio resolution and a very natural and detailed audio experience with a 20Hz frequency response to 30 kHz.
Each moon pair IEMS is handmade in Japan and comes with an attractive case of Alcantara. The cables are OCs with Silver and Copper Coating, combining high purity silver with copper coating and ending in a 4 mm 2 pins connector with aluminum finish. Seven sets of ears tips, of different sizes and materials are provided.
