While Pickens was possibly the best reception option for Pittsburgh in the last three seasons, Chief coach Mike Tomlin publicly called Pickens after making fun and is not important. Pickens also had arguments with fans in the stands.

“You just have to grow, man,” Tomlin said last season. “It is an emotional game. These divisional games are great. It has an objective on the back because it is George. He understands it, but he has to grow. He has to grow in a hurry.”

Tomlin made those comments after the 44-38 victory of the Steelers on the road on week 13, when it was evaluated to mockery pickens and unsportsmanlike behavior sanctions.

“I feel that everyone in the world is working to grow at their best,” he said. I feel that the growth for me is taking a great direction in me to come to the cowboys. ”
