Fans of The night manager (or, indeed, fans of Tom Hiddleston playing the best role of his career as suave secret agent Jonathan Pine) will be delighted to know that, after a 10-year gap between seasons 1 and 2, a third series has been commissioned and will arrive sooner.
But now there’s better news, as the show’s writer, David Farr, has confirmed that there won’t be a decade-long gap between seasons. talking to giftFarr said: “There’s definitely a sense of urgency this time. We’re not going to wait 10 years.”
The second series of the character created by John le Carré became a record-breaking show for the BBC when it aired in January 2026. The first episode garnered 8.7 million views in 28 days, making it the biggest debut drama episode since 2023.
With S2 set primarily in Colombia, Pine faced adversaries in the form of arms-dealing crime boss Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva), his girlfriend Roxy (Camila Morrone), and some old enemies from the past showed up to surprise him. But as the series ends with some shocking deaths and a cliffhanger, here’s everything you need to know. The night manager season 3; including release date, cast and potential plot.
The Night Manager season 3: release date
As mentioned, time is of the essence for this season; especially since viewers were left wondering if Jonathan Pine would survive their confrontation in the Colombian jungle. But writing and filming the new series will take a long time, so we imagine we’re unlikely to see it on screens until 2028.
As for what stage production has reached in February 2026, Farr said. gift: “We’re in the process and then my mouth closes. I can’t say anything. We’re in the writing process and we’re excited to finish the story because it will be the last one for this particular thing.”
The Night Manager season 3: expected cast
Season 2 spoilers ahead!
While there are no confirmed castings at this time, it’s easy to tell who will be returning. Although Pine was last seen staggering, seriously injured, outside the guerrilla headquarters, it’s pretty inconceivable that he would be killed, so it’s safe to assume that Hiddleston will return as their iconic secret agent in season 3.
The same goes for old Dickie Roper (Hugh Laurie) and his son, Danny (Noah Jupe). At the end of Season 2, after his dastardly plans came true, Roper was seen picking Danny up from school, presumably to bring him into the family arms-dealing business.
Farr said Entertainment Weekly: “The only thing I would say is that Roper’s other son, Danny, who was in the last scene of season two… I think Noah Jupe is a very special young actor. And I think there’s more to come from him as a character, and I’m looking forward to that.”
The head of Evil River House, Mayra Cavendish (Indira Varma), got away with literal murder in this series, despite being so close to being outed for the villain she is; so will definitely come back. Of Cavendish, Farr said radio times that the next chapter will delve into “what really motivates her” and suggested that she would be a key figure. He added: “I think you have some indications: I think ambition and patriotism are clearly present in what she does. But I think there is much more to come from her.”
Pine’s top assistant, Sally (Hayley Squire), will also likely play a key role in the mission to take down Roper again, Farr said. Variety that he has a “strong desire” for Sally to return. He called Sally a “really exciting and beautiful” character and said bringing her back would be a great way to honor Angela.
Speaking of Angela Burr (British national treasure Olivia Colman), well, unless it’s in flashbacks, she won’t appear, as she was brutally murdered in front of her young daughter in rural France in the season 2 finale.
The same goes for Teddy, although TeddyPine’s chemistry was an undeniable hit with fans, there were screams echoing around the world as viewers watched Roper murder his own son in cold blood. Unfortunately, that means it’s also a no for Diego Calva’s return to the cast list.
The return of a previous cast member has not yet been ruled out, which is Roper/Pine’s ex-girlfriend Jed (Elizabeth Debicki), whom both characters spoke about in a Season 2 episode. gift When she asked the writer if she had been approached yet about a possible return, Farr said, “No, we haven’t yet.” That “still” is doing heavy lifting…
Other guest stars and cameos will be announced in due course and we will keep you updated on who they are.
The Night Manager season 3: potential plot
The end of the second season sets things up nicely for the final part of the trilogy: with Roper continuing with his deranged plans to arm guerrilla gangs, provoke political uprisings and instability, and profit from all the misery. Classic roper! But after he murdered his illegitimate son in Colombia, who was doing all the work and fixing, he needs a new son to groom to take his place, and sadly, it looks like it will be Danny.
There’s also no just avenging Burr’s murder (Pine doesn’t yet know she’s been killed, so the revelation and pain of that act will surely play a big role in season 2), but remember just before Burr is shot in the final episode; He tells Pine in a voicemail that he’s been “digging into some files and there’s something beyond Roper, there’s a bigger plan and I’ve got the name…”
Farr notes that that murder occurs “days” after her own confrontation with Cavendish, but she made good use of her final days on Earth “in that time, and I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for season three, but in that time, she’s not idle.” So, it’s fair to assume that in season 3 Pine will unmask the person who is Roper’s overlord (and hopefully finally see Roper’s well-deserved retribution).
The Night Manager: the future
Farr has previously said that he considers The night manager as a trilogy series, adding to gift that: “It will be the last of this particular thing.”
When asked if he believes there is life beyond the trilogy, he said: “That would be a different conversation. That’s not the one I’m interested in right now.”
But given the enormous international success of The night manager seasons 1 and 2, it’s not hard to see the BBC and Amazon ordering even more follow-up series. What does that look like? The only thing we can do is wait…
