Five most injured victims in the oil explosion last week in Noshki, Baluchistan, have died during treatment in Karachi hospitals, carrying the total deaths to eight, rescue officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to the Edhi Foundation, the explosion on April 28 injured at least 38 people, most of which suffered severe burns, Express News said.
Of these, 24 patients with critical injuries were transferred by plane to Karachi on April 29 through EDHI’s air ambulance for specialized treatment.
One of the victims, Mahmood Ahmed, 38, died halfway. Two others, Tayyab Shah and Jehanzaib, became their wounds earlier this week while they were under care in a private hospital in the Karachi area in the Gulan-E-Iqbal area of Karachi.
On Friday night and early Saturday, five additional victims, identified as Salman (18), Wazir Ahmed (17), Dur Mohammad (26), Abdul Basit (25) and Mustafa (28), were approved during treatment in two different private hospitals from the city.
The five bodies have been transferred to Morgue Edhi in Sohrab Goth.
According to EDHI officials, other seventeen patients remain under treatment in private hospitals in Karachi.
The explosion occurred near a truck terminal in Nushki when an oil tanker caught and exploded, hurting more than 40 people. Many had gathered around the vehicle before the explosion.
Local authorities continue investigations on the cause of the fire, which, according to the reports, originated inside the oil tanker before triggering the explosion.
The emergency protocols were promulgated in the hospitals in the area after the incident, and special airplanes were sent to transport the most injured to Karachi to receive attention.
