“The best runners, with great sadness, we can confirm our icon of humanity and the power of positivity, Fauja Singh, has died in India, at the age of 114,” began his statement. “He succumbed to the injuries caused by a vehicle accident while crossing the road near his home.”

Tributes for Singh arrived at social networks after the news of his death. Among them there was a statement by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Fauja Singh Ji was extraordinary due to his unique personality and the way he inspired the youth of India in a very important subject of physical aptitude,” Modi said in an X. “He was an exceptional athlete with an incredible determination. Painful for his death. My thoughts are with his family and with admirers from all over the world.”
Singh’s Running Club in London, Sikhs in the city, said he plans to honor his legacy in his next events.
