Laura Dahlmeier, twice Olympic gold medalistHe has died at the age of 31 as a result of his wounds for an accident of mountaineering earlier this week.
The German biathlete was beaten by the fall of rocks in northern Pakistan in the mountains of Karakoram.
Early rescue efforts were made to locate Dahlmeier, but they were not successful due to the inclement weather and the additional risks of rock fall: the remote location of the incident caused the efforts to be much more difficult.

“The news about the death of the two -time Olympic Biatlon Champion Laura Dahlmeier in a terrible mountaineering accident is deeply shocking for all of us in the Olympic movement. He lost his life in his beloved mountains,” said Coi Kirsty Coventry president in a statement.
“Laura made history at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games as the first female biathlete to win Sprint and Pursuit Gold in the same edition of Games. It will be remembered forever. Our thoughts are with your family and friends at this time very difficult.”
According to Dahlmeier’s management, the accident took place at an altitude of almost 19,000 feet.
A spokeswoman for the Pakistani government said that “he was carried by the locals of the landslides site,” according to Reuters.

Dahlmeier moved away surprisingly from professional competence in 2019. He cited the decrease in his general passion for sports in his retirement announcement.
“After an incredibly difficult season with many ups and downs, I no longer feel the passion of the 100 percent needed for professional sports. That is why, after thinking about it, I decided to finish my active biathlon career,” Dahlmeier said in 2019, at the age of 25.
She obtained gold medals in 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchangwhere history made the first female biathlete to win a double sprint and persecution in the same games. She also won seven world championships.

Dahlmeier is also an Olympic bronze medalist. It ended third in the individual 15 km event at the 2018 Games.
