After taking a break from the tours and being in the public eye, the 83 -year -old singer, actor and poet spoke about his health, the love of his family and his recent work with his son, Art Garfunkel Jr.
With the support of his children and his wife, Kim opened to PEOPLEsaying: “I am ready to be seen again. Psoriasis is something I lived in silence for many years. It was part of my life even during my most public moments, even on tours, but rarely, if ever, I talked about that.”
He explained: “I found ways to cover it on stage, in the photos and in my daily life. It is not something that people would have known to look at me, but it was always there, under the surface. I’m glad that I have never reached music. I am happy with that change in my life.”
He Bright eyes Crooner continued to share that, apart from being difficult, his “treatment trip was long”, and tried numerous approaches “in the course of decades”, including “different creams, remedies, even treatments that involve UV light and tar”.
“I remember being completely covered with tar; what a disaster. Some gave me temporal relief, but nothing really lasted, it was a frustrating cycle. The itching always returned, and so did the balance. It was very uncomfortable,” Kim said.
Despite going through difficulties, the Carnal knowledge Star admitted that he had “lucky to have a great dermatologist,” who finally told him about Illuma, a medicine that “had not tried”, but after the first doses, his “skin began to clarify and, for the first time in a long time, I did not feel the need to hide. Life began to change for me.”
In the future, Grammy’s winner spoke about having to cancel the dates of the tour due to his health, joking, “acting is such a great part of who I am, so having to step back due to my psoriasis was difficult.”
“It could be facing thousands of people, but still having to cover up. It can affect their trust, their comfort in their own skin, and isolates yourself in a way that people do not always see,” he said.
