
“Moklani – The Last Mohanas” has won the prestigious Jackson Wild Media awards, becoming the first Pakistani film to do so in the awards, often known as the “Oscar of nature documentaries.”
“Wow … wow … Our movie Moklani has become the first winner of the Pakistani feature film in the 2025 Jackson Wild Media Awards held worldwide as the Oscars of Nature,” said Jawad Sharif Films on Instagram.
“We dedicate this award to the Fisherfolk of Mohana, to Pakistan and all indigenous communities whose stories, struggles and wisdom inspire us to continue telling the stories that matter.”
Directed and produced by the award -winning filmmaker Jawad Sharif, the Pakistani film was chosen from a record group of more than 500 tickets.
According to the producers, the film highlights the history of the Mohana del Lake people, an indigenous fishing community whose centennial traditions are quickly disappearing.
Produced by Jawad Sharif Films with the support of the National Geographic Society and Climate Kahani, “Moklani – The Last Mohanas” is a visually striking and deeply human portrait of a community aboard cultural extinction.
His fight reflects the greatest climatic crisis that Pakistan is experiencing.
