- The US DOD wants to improve safety by unlocking greater visibility of the supply chain
- A new Fast-Track software initiative will arrive in the next 90 days

The United States Department of Defense (DOD) plans to review its obsolete software acquisition systems, which expects to improve the safety and visibility of the supply chain in a world of growing vulnerabilities.
The CIO DOD Katherine Arrington introduced the Fast-Track Software (SWFT) initiative to reform software acquisition, as well as authorization and tests, in an online published memorandum.
Arrington confirmed that, together with the Secretaries of Defense of Acquisition and Sustainment, Intelligence and Security, and Research and Engineering, the DOD will present the Swft framework within 90 days.
Procurement processes of outdated software
In the memorandum, Arrington explained that the SWFT framework will define the “clear” and “specific” cybersecurity and risk management requirements of the flexible chain (SCRM), rigorous software safety verification processes, safe mechanisms to share information and risk determinations directed by the federal government to issue cyber security authorizations for rapid software adoption.
She continued explaining that current systems are considered better as “outdated”, noting that acquisition processes do not allow the agility that departments need.
Arrington also pointed out that the use of open source software “presents a significant and continuous challenge”, with a lack of visibility of the origins and the security of the particularly worrying software code.
Malware and partners leaks have already exposed vulnerabilities in DOD systems, with software vulnerabilities between the most popular entry points for attackers.
The declaration of the Department of Defense emphasizes the plans to eliminate the duplicate and wasteful processes, and has a Duxt ring. Musk’s efficiency department has already saved billions in the various government agencies of the USA.
