The president of the International Boxing Association (IBA), Umar Kremlev, demands that Algerian boxer The Imane Khelif Olympic Medal must be clear in an effort to achieve “transparency and openness.”
Khelif won a gold medal in female boxing in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Under a great scrutiny of IBA, which was derived by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2023 amid the concerns about the governance of the organization, the financial dependence of the Russian state energy firm Gazprom and the integrity of the fighting.

The IOC defended the results of the Paris Games, stating that Khelif and another boxer faced by gender eligibility concerns were victims of a “sudden and arbitrary decision of IBA.” Khelif has also publicly denied having been transgender.
In February, world boxing was provisionally recognized by the IOC as the governing body of the sport, a movement that gave way to the organization later announcing A new gender eligibility policy That requires athletes to undergo mandatory sexual evidence.
Policy change occurs when the United States prepares to organize the Summer 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. However, for Kremlev, the possibility that Khelif lacks international competition is not enough. In an interview with The sun, He called the revocation of the gold medal of the boxer.

“I really think a medal should be really deserved. We must protect athletes and give them the best conditions,” he said. “I am here for truth, transparency and openness. And now the truth has been revealed.
“There should be no unfair fights in boxing and international federations should take care of their athletes.”
Khelif did not compete in an International Boxing Tournament in the Netherlands last month after not registering in time before applications close.
Kremlev’s comments follow a bold statement from the new president of the IOC, Kirsty Coventry, who said last month that there has been an “overwhelming support” to protect women’s sports categories.

“We understand that there will be differences depending on sport … but members of the members have to protect the female category, first of all to guarantee equity,” Coventry said.
“But we need to do that with a scientific approach and the inclusion of international federations that have already worked a lot in this area.”
