The price of electricity is expected to drop

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a reduction in the per unit electricity price under the monthly fuel price adjustment for December.

Following the CPPA’s request, there is a possibility of a decrease of Rs 1.03 per unit in electricity prices during the month.

The hearing on this request is scheduled for January 30.

In the petition, the CPPA mentioned that 7.516 million units of electricity were supplied to distribution companies (DISCOs) in December, with the fuel cost of electricity being Rs 9.60 per unit, while the estimated cost was Rs 10.63 per unit.

The petition also highlighted that in December, 22.80% of electricity generation came from hydropower, 10.06% from local coal, 1.59% from imported coal and 0.03% from furnace oil. .

Furthermore, 12.31% of electricity was generated from local gas, 20.70% from LNG and 26.48% from nuclear sources.
