In response, the NCAA changed its transinclusion policy to prohibit transgender athletes of women’s sports completely. Turban wrote a letter to the president of the NCAA, Charlie Baker, announced his resignation of the NCAA Committee on competitive safeguards and medical aspects of sports (CSMAS).

“Unfortunately, his recent decision to issue a general prohibition of female trans -female participation in women’s sports does not align with medical or scientific consensus,” said Turban’s letter. “I cannot participate in good awareness in this type of politicization of science and medicine at the expense of some of our most vulnerable student athletes.

“I am immensely grateful for my time with CSMA Doctor of the Committee.

“However, it is clear that his decision was based on politics and not on science, since the CSMAS membership was not consulted before the decision.”

The NCAA announced the change one day after Trump signed the executive order.

“The NCAA is an organization composed of 1,100 schools and universities in the 50 states that collectively register more than 530,000 athletes,” Baker said in a statement. “We firmly believe that clear, consistent and uniform eligibility standards would better serve today athlete students instead of a mosaic of state laws and judicial decisions in conflict. For that purpose, the order of President Trump provides a clear national standard.

“The updated policy combined with these resources follows the constitutional commitment of the NCAA to offer an intercollegial athletics competence and protect, support and improve the mental and physical health of athletes students,” Baker said. “This national standard brings very necessary clarity as we modernize university sports for today’s athlete students.”
