Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that military courts granted amnesty to those who had already served one year in prison and their sentences were about to be completed, Express News reported.

He further claimed that two days after the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan, he was offered a chance to leave the country.

Speaking on the Express News program center stageAkram revealed that the PTI founder rejected the offer to leave the country, insisting that he would not do so unless the release of PTI prisoners was guaranteed.

“Imran Khan said he received offers to leave, but he refused. He insisted that our prisoners should be released before he considered leaving,” he said.

Talking about the second round of negotiations between the government and the PTI, Akram claimed that it was the first time that all parties were present. “We have presented our demands clearly. Our two main demands are non-negotiable,” he said, adding that a detailed meeting with Khan was crucial to moving forward.

“We have asked for justice. We are not demanding anything unreasonable. “Our prisoners must be released and we need to know the whereabouts of our missing people,” he continued.

Akram further emphasized that the demand for formation of a judicial commission is completely reasonable and wondered why such a commission could not be established.

He also clarified that the party’s demands were in line with the constitution and the law. “We are not asking for anything outside the law,” he added.

Regarding the £190 million case, Akram said that if there were valid charges, they would have been resolved at the first hearing in a higher court. “We are fundamentally against military courts and the PTI’s stance on this matter is clear,” he said.

He concluded by noting that many pardoned people had already served their sentences and their sentences were coming to an end. “The cases against the PTI, similar to the previous ones, can also be concluded,” he said.
