The resolution of PPP in NA urges the victims of floods to relief

Islamabad:

The PPP presented on Friday a resolution at the National Assembly that requested an urgent national and international response to the ongoing flood and the agricultural crisis throughout the country.

The resolution indicated that until now more than 1,000 people have died in floods, while 5.8 million people have been affected and 4 million displaced.

According to the text, Punjab has suffered a massive damage of crops, with 60% rice, 35% cotton and 30% of the destroyed sugar cane. More than 1.3 million agricultural land acres in the eastern rivers are submerged, severely affecting the current Kharif yield.

The resolution demanded the exemption of electricity invoices for people affected by floods, cash transfers through the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and the provision of medicines and medical care facilities to the affected areas.

The resolution emphasized the immediate need for a national and global humanitarian response, including an international flash appeal.
