- A new rumor suggests that Nvidia works at RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 super gpus
- The rumored RTX 5080 Super could use 24 GB of GDDR7 VRM
- You have the potential to close the gap with RTX 4090
It seems that NVIDIA will complete its RTX 5000 series desktop with RTX 5060 (and perhaps RTX 5050 rumored). However, it might not be the last one we see from the Blackwell GPU line, with a new rumor suggesting another powerful letter in the Team Green pipe.
According to rumors in the forums of Chiphell, Nvidia is preparing an RTX 5070 Super and, more markedly, an RTX 5080 Super that will allegedly use 24 GB of GDDR7 VRM. This is a step above the current RTX 5080 model and its predecessor, the RTX 4080 Super, which use 16 GB of VRM.
It may be worth noting that MSI previously mocked a RTX 5080 GPU does not exceed that it uses 24 GB of GDDR7 Vram: it is not clear if Nvidia plans to simply update VRM, or launch a new super model, in any way, it gives this new rumor a little more credibility.
This supposed VRM update could see the RTX 5080 Super Match not confirmed the RTX 4090 memory, but use GDDR7 instead of GDDR6X VRM. It is very likely that the alleged GPU is still using the GB203 dice, which is lower than the AD102 of RTX 4090 (despite being older, the RTX 4090 still exceeds RTX 5080).
The question is, will it be enough 24 GB of GDDR7 VRM to close the gap, or maybe even overcome the flagship GPU of the previous generation? One thing is safe: the rumored GPU would definitely benefit from the increase in memory, considering the growing number of triple games that require more vram.
Even if it coincides or exceeds RTX 4090, it is likely that it does not matter due to the GPU market state
Not only is it difficult for me to predict a possible RTX 5080 Super GPU that dethrones the power RTX 4090, but that this GPU market is a monstrosity, and I am willing to bet that very few players will pay.
Unless Nvidia makes this RTX 5080 rumored super cheaper than the counterpart that is not super (similar to the lowest prices of RTX 4080 Super compared to the original RTX 4080), I think it will be a difficult sale, especially if so. No Match the RTX 4090 performance.
And that is to exclude the harsh reality of the market: even if Team Green made it a cheaper and more powerful card, the GPU market trend tells me that it would probably cost more than an RTX 4090. Keep in mind that the third -party models of RTX 4090 are still sold consistently above the launch price, almost three whole years from the launch.
I hope to be wrong, but if this rumor is legitimate, I think we will only see a slight update in terms of performance that coincides with the RTX 4090 instead of equal conditions or dethroning. Anyway, we will probably see some owners of RTX 5080 annoying in the near future …
