Samsung is reportedly trying to implement the rather clever trick of making its foldable devices lighter while increasing battery capacity, improvements that could come with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, which are due to launch mid-year.
This comes from South Korean outlet Maeil Business (via SamMobile) and according to the report, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will tip the scales at just 200 grams. That’s less than the 215 grams that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 weighs.
As for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, it will lose 38 grams to drop to 150 grams. Considering that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is already very thin and light, it would be quite a feat if Samsung could pull it off.
The same article also mentions the rumored price freeze for Samsung’s 2026 flagship phones which we have already written about. It seems that Samsung is going to do everything possible to not raise the prices of its devices, despite the increase in parts and manufacturing costs.
A bigger battery too
Another prediction from this Maeil Business report is that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is in line to get an increase in battery capacity: up to 5,000 mAh, up from 4,400 mAh for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (which had the same battery capacity as its predecessor).
A lighter frame and bigger battery? It’s a difficult question, but if Samsung can pull it off, it would be very welcome. We’ve also heard that S Pen support could return for Samsung’s foldable devices this year, to help compete with the rumored iPhone Fold.
As always with speculation and rumors, it is advisable to add a pinch or two of salt. Well-known tipster @UniverseIce has suggested that the reduced weight of the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will be 180 grams instead of 150 grams, which seems more realistic.
The same article also gives us some tips on the Galaxy S26, which is due out in February: it will apparently come with a larger 4,300 mAh battery (instead of 4,000 mAh) and will also feature new camera and privacy features.
