The Sei Foundation explores the purchase of 23 Andme to put genetic data in blockchain

The SEI Foundation, the non-profit development organization behind the Layer-1 SEI (SEI) block chain, is exploring the acquisition of the personal genomics company in bankruptcy 23andme and putting the genetic data of 15 million users in Blockchain rails.

The Foundation announced the initiative in an X publication on Thursday, calling the plan its “boldest DESCI commitment so far”, referring to the decentralized scientific movement.

The Foundation said that the safety of genomic data is a issue of national security, particularly when 23 Andme with financial difficulties. The company, known for its direct DNA test services to the consumer, requested bankruptcy protection of Chapter 11 earlier this week.

If the acquisition continues, the SEI Foundation plans to integrate the 23Andme data into its block chain and provide users to the property of their genetic data, ensuring privacy through encrypted transfers and allowing people to decide how their data is monetized.
