A deep depression has been formed in the Northeast Sea of Arabia and it is likely to intensify in a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours, the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD) warned on Friday.
Once it becomes a cyclone, it will be called “Shakti”, which means strength, a title proposed by Sri Lanka.
The system is currently 400 km south of Karachi. PMD said that it had already intensified in the last 12 hours, moving west and northwest, and is expected to strengthen even more as it is directed towards the Central-North Sea of Arabia during the next 24 hours.

Earlier this week, PMD had issued its third tropical cyclones alert after a low pressure system that brought rain to Karachi moved from the Gujarat region of India to the Northeast Sea of Arabia, near the coast of Saurashtra.
At that time, the system was about 310 km southeast of Karachi and it is forecast that it would intensify in a depression while moving west.
The Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi said he is closely monitoring the developments and will continue to issue notices. The authorities have been urged to remain alert and keep the public updated through PMD notices.
