The Sindh government has announced scholarships for six deserving students to study at the University of Oxford, marking a significant step in the Postgraduate Scholarship of Benazir Bhutto.

The announcement occurred after a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed in London, officially facilitating these opportunities.

The MOU was signed in the presence of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, president of the Popular Party of Pakistan (PPP), who highlighted the importance of education and empowerment during the ceremony.

Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah revealed that three students and three women from Sindh would receive these scholarships annually, in collaboration with Oxford Pakistan.

“These scholarships have been part of the long -standing initiative of the Government of Sindh to support students in the achievement of higher education abroad,” said Prime Minister Shah.

Scholarships are part of the Bhutto program and are intended to promote academic excellence in fields such as science, technology and engineering.

During a visit to the University of Oxford, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari reflected on his mother’s legacy, Benazir Bhutto, who fought for the improvement of Pakistan’s future. He reiterated his belief that “democracy is the best revenge,” noting that despite the important social restrictions on women, his mother became the first Prime Minister of Pakistan. Bilawal emphasized that Pakistan’s future is linked to constitutional supremacy, an independent judiciary and a free journalism.

Bilawal condemned the NAB (National Responsibility Office) as a “draconian law” and reiterated the position of the PPP against it, highlighting the role of the party in improving basic health facilities in Sindh. He also expressed concern about the security situation in Baluchistan and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the safety of his nuclear assets.

In addition to the Oxford scholarships, the Government of Sindh has also approved 3,157 new scholarships for the academic year 2023-2024, with an approach to provide opportunities for talented students through the Endowment fund of Sindh Education.

In a statement, Prime Minister Shah emphasized that these scholarships are part of the effort of the provincial government to provide opportunities for talented and needy students, as part of their educational development.

He also addressed the situation of crime in Karachi, stating that despite the population of the city of more than 20 million, efforts are being made under the Safe City program to improve the safety and safety of residents.
