Before becoming a Fourth Ronda Draft team, Rafferty played for the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Rafferty won a Super Bowl ring when the Cowboys defeated the Denver Broncos in the 1978 Super Bowl. He played in another Super Bowl after the 1978 season, although in a defeat against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Perhaps Rafferty’s most memorable race occurred in January 1983 when he delivered the key block to help the 99 Yardas Spring Tony Dorsett race in a game against the Vikings of Minnesota.

After his game days, Rafferty spent time working on sales of sports teams.

His wife, his two children and grandchildren survive.
