The Super Mario Galaxy movie has had poor results among film critics, with some going so far as to say that it is “worse than AI” or “it’s torture to sit through.” Of the new movies released in April, it hasn’t performed well so far.
Recently, the film upset fans on Reddit after a poster was posted showing that Fox McCloud would be a part of the film. Many claimed that this should have been revealed as a surprise and that confirming their involvement so close to launch was a disappointment.

Critics haven’t said many positive things about the film, and there have been some particularly brutal reviews so far. Despite its stellar cast, including the addition of Chad powers‘, starring Glenn Powell as Fox McCloud, initial reactions have been very bad.
Peter Bradshaw described it as “a bland screensaver for a movie that’s actually worse than the AI” in his 1-star review for The Guardian. He added that it also lacked substance and said it was “a pretty boring variation on the first story.”
Kevin Maher gave it a 0-star review in The Times, asking if it was “the end of cinema” and saying that “the film is torture to watch and, for me, caused periods of real physical discomfort.”
Clint Worthington offered a bleak outlook for RogerEbert.com, writing: “It’s cute and cheerful and stupid, and it’ll probably make a billion dollars again. That’s the world we live in.”
However, some critics have noted that children and long-time fans of the games may enjoy the film. Adam Graham said in Detroit News: “It’s a solid action adventure built specifically for kids, with a few nods that lifelong Nintendo nerds will appreciate.”
