Rawalpindi:
The Tax, Tax and Narcotic Control Department has taken total control over the collection of professional and luxury taxes in the cliff areas, issuing notices to 10,000 small and large merchants in several markets and shopping centers of Rawalpindi Cantt and Chaklala Cantt to pay the professional tax.
In addition, 312 house owners that measure two kanals or more in the two cliff areas have received notices to pay the luxury tax. The merchants have received instructions to pay professional taxes ranging from RS2,000 to RS10,000, while the owners of houses of Dos Kanales have been asked to pay RS200,000 and those with larger properties must pay RS300,000 in luxury taxes.
The notices for both taxes must be resolved by Eidul Fitr, with instructions to pay within 10 to 15 days. Previously, the collection of these taxes was handled by the administration of the Acantonation Board; However, the Supreme Court (SC) led the cessation of tax collection by the cliff joints and transferred the entire system to the Department of Special Taxes and Taxes.
After this directive, the Special Tax Department has launched operations for the collection of professional and luxury taxes in the eight closet meetings of the Rawalpindi Division, including Rawalpindi, Chaklala, Wah, Taxila, Kamra, Murree, Jehlum and Mangla.
The Special Tax Department expects to generate millions of rupees in additional income through this process. According to an official, the collection of professional and luxury taxes has accelerated, and a separate counter for this purpose has been established.
After EID, a great operation will be launched to enforce both taxes, which will include arrests and sealing of property units, he adds.
