Book reviews the comprehensive socioeconomic reforms undertaken in Uzbekistan under the Mirziyoyev government

The book presentation of Muhhamad Abbas Khan’s Urdu translation of Uzbekistan: The Third Renaissance – Vision of the Future at a private hotel in Islamabad on Thursday by the Embassy of Uzbekistan and the Daily Ittehad Media Group.

The event was attended by Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Chief Guest Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan Alisher Tukhtaev, President’s Spokesperson Murtaza Solangi, Ambassadors of Central Asian countries and other guests.

The book’s author Khan and editor Tahir Farooq, editor-in-chief of Daily Ittehad, noted that Pakistan and Uzbekistan are custodians of a shared historical, civilizational and cultural legacy, and the current leadership of both countries is taking relations to new heights.

“Our two nations are connected not only by commercial and political bridges, but also by spiritual ties: a shared cultural code, a common history and similar dreams for the future,” Tukhtaev said.

The book reviews and analyzes the comprehensive socio-economic reforms undertaken in Uzbekistan by the government of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev since 2016.

“Pakistan and Uzbekistan have historical relations and shared cultural heritage. Central Asian nations can promote trade through Pakistan’s ports, including Gwadar,” Tarar said.

Tukhtaev highlighted the strong bilateral ties between the two countries. Under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, relations have reached the level of a “true strategic partnership,” he said.

“A key element of our partnership is the Trans-Afghan Railway Project, which will connect Central and South Asia, not only with rails and steel, but also with trust, markets and the shared dreams of our peoples,” Tukhtaev said.

Earlier in July, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan signed a trilateral agreement on the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Project, which aims to build a rail link to connect Uzbekistan with Pakistan through Afghanistan and facilitate access to Pakistani seaports for Central Asian States.

In August 2025, trade between Pakistan and Uzbekistan increased from $122 million to $404 million, while $320 million in investments were recorded. Both sides have set the ambitious goal of increasing trade to $2 billion in the coming years.
