The UN adopts the resolution sponsored by Pakistan in the ‘Pacific Disputes Agreement’

Islamabad:

On Tuesday, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution sponsored by Pakistan entitled “Strengthening mechanisms for the peaceful dispute solution”, marking a significant diplomatic achievement during the presidency of Pakistan of the Council for July.

The adoption of the resolution, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Ishaq Dar, was acclaimed as a historical development to advance international peace and security.

According to an official statement, the resolution underlines the importance of preventive diplomacy, conflict prevention and the peaceful resolution of disputes, in line with the principles of the UN Charter.

Resolution 2788 (2025) seeks to improve the role of the mechanisms described in Chapter VI of the UN Charter, encouraging member states to prioritize peaceful means to resolve disputes. In addition, it urges nations to implement relevant decisions of the Security Council aimed at facilitating peaceful settlements.

The resolution also requires both UN Member States and the organization itself to explore early diplomatic participation, mediation, facilitation of dialogue and confidence construction measures at international, regional and subregional level.

It promotes greater cooperation between regional and UN organizations in efforts to avoid disputes escalation and promote sustainable peace.

Pakistan, who currently serves as a non -permanent member of the Security Council, reaffirmed his long -standing commitment to multilateralism and the peaceful resolution of international disputes.

Islamabad described the adoption of its resolution as a significant contribution to world peace and stability, aligning with its foreign policy objectives.

Meanwhile, apart from the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on sustainable development, the Vice Prime Minister Dar celebrated a meeting with the special envy of Austria for global affairs, Peter Launsky.

Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the positive trajectory of bilateral ties and discussed the ways for greater cooperation, particularly in education, tourism and business.

Launsky appreciated the contributions of the Pakistani diaspora to the economy and social cohesion of Austria.

The two also reaffirmed the close collaboration of their countries on multilateral platforms, and Austria praised Pakistan’s constructive role in the Security Council, especially during their current presidency.

A day before, Dar also met the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, at the UN Headquarters, where he raised concerns about the continuous violations of India of the Indo Water Treaty (IWT).

He described violations as a threat to regional stability and urged the United Nations to play a proactive role in the defense of international agreements.

The Vice Prime Minister also caught attention to a variety of critical issues, including Jammu and Kashmir’s long dispute and the threat that represents terrorism externally sponsored in Pakistan.

Reiterating Islamabad’s commitment to the UN letter, emphasized Pakistan’s search for peace through diplomacy and dialogue.

He pointed out the recent debates of the High Level Council on Multilateralism and the Resolution of Pacific Disputes, as well as the Non -Oic Cooperation Meeting convened by the presidency of Pakistan, as evidence of the country’s active commitment in the global peace efforts.
