The permanent representative of Pakistan before the United Nations in Vienna, Ambassador Kamran Akhtar, has been elected president of the 53rd session of the United Nations Industrial Development Board (UNIDO). This marks the first time Pakistan receives this prestigious position.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, expressed proud of Pakistan’s achievement about X. “Pakistan continues to make significant contributions to the UN system and remains deeply committed to an international order based on the UN Charter and International Law,” he said.

The election reflects the trust placed in Pakistan by the Member States of Unido, reaffirming the country’s active diplomatic role within the international organizations based in Vienna.
Pakistan’s commitment to industrial development, particularly in developing countries, less developed countries (LDC) and small states of development of the island (SMS), has been fundamental for its profile in United.
Ambassador Akhtar expressed his gratitude to the Member States of the United for his trust and described his commitment to further improve the role of the organization in promoting industrial development worldwide. He highlighted the Pakistan approach in sustainable and inclusive growth, particularly in vulnerable nations.

The general director of UNIDO congratulated Ambassador Akhtar, praising Pakistan’s continuous contribution to the central mission of the organization.
Pakistan has one of the largest wallets with united, with more than 350 million euros invested in current projects and planned in several sectors, including textiles, leather, fishing, food security, climate action and renewable energy.
The key initiatives such as Payar and Pafaid have been fundamental in the relief of poverty, employment creation and sustainable development of rural communities in Pakistan.
This year, Pakistan will launch a new cycle of the association program of his country with Unido, along with several new projects in various sectors aimed at promoting industrial development and economic growth.
