The UN releases $ 600,000 for flood relief in Pakistan


The United Nations have launched $ 600,000 to support aid efforts for victims of sudden flooding caused by relentless monsoon rains in Pakistan.

The UN spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, told reporters in New York that the Pakistani authorities, supported by the UN and local partners, are leading the emergency response. A UN team will carry out a damage evaluation survey on Wednesday.

In the last ten days, more than 400 people have been killed and 190 wounds, while at least 20,000 remain displaced. Since the beginning of the 2025 Monzón season on June 26, the authorities have registered 798 deaths and more than 1,000 injuries throughout the country.

The UN Humanitarian Affairs Office (OCHA) reported that floods affected by flood supplies, medical assistance, effective work, hygiene kits, drinking water, education, as well as protection support, particularly for women and girls.

“The authorities are leading the response with the support of the United Nations and local partners,” said the spokesman too.

Dujarric warned that the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan has predicted more rains in the next few days, which increases additional floods.
