- The United Kingdom Government is accepting offers for ‘AI growth zones’
- These will focus on local authorities with access to energy sources.
- Growth areas are part of the government’s action plan
The United Kingdom Government is increasing its “plan for change” with the launch of ‘AI growth zones’, designed to focus on the unindustrialized areas of the United Kingdom ready for development.
The government is encouraging local and regional authorities to present their offers, especially those with “existing access to energy or that would be suitable to establish an important energy infrastructure”, such as those close to nuclear reactors, solar stations and parks winds, or battery storage. .
The launch follows the Government’s master plan to “unleash the AI” in the British economy by investing strongly in data centers and “unlocking” public data to allow researchers to access the training models.
IA superpower
Within the AI Action Plan, growth zones aim to accelerate the construction of AI infrastructure and allow better access to the energy network. This despite the considerable tension that this would put on the national network, since the use of energy from the data center is established to increase the “six times” in a decade.
The Government aims to market the United Kingdom as a ‘world leader’ of AI and attract technological investments, and states that it is already bringing ‘millions per hour’ in private sector funds.
By attracting investments and building connected infrastructure, the ‘growth zones’ hope to take advantage of the economic potential of the United Kingdom and create ‘thousands’ of local jobs, “revitalizing” local communities.
“These new growth areas of AI will provide incalculable opportunities: generate new jobs, new investments and ensure that every corner of the country has a true participation in our future to AI,” said the Secretary of Science, Innovation and Technology, Peter Kyle .
“We do not leave stone without moving in how we can take advantage of the experience of the entire United Kingdom to offer new opportunities, new growth, better public services and consolidate our position as a pioneer of AI.”
