- VRI will complement the current NCSC vulnerabilities research efforts
- It will be responsible for communicating the needs of NCSC with external experts.
- The objective is to understand the defects, patches and research methodology.
The National Cyber Security Center of the United Kingdom (NCSC) has announced the formation of the Vulnerability Research Initiative (VRI), a new program that will be associated with experts in cybersecurity of third parties for vulnerability research in basic products and specialized technology.
The NCSC said that a team of internal researchers who are experts in common technologies and that they carry out vulnerability research (VR) in a variety of technologies and products, from traditional basic products technology, to specialized solutions that are only used in some places are currently operated.
However, the team cannot keep up with the speed at which the technology industry is changing. The new technology is appearing every day, and Old Tech is evolving beyond recognition, “and, therefore, virtual reality is becoming more difficult.”
Understand vulnerabilities
“This means that VR’s NCSC demand continues to grow,” NCSC explained.
To address the challenge, VRI decided to create and bring help from third parties. The objective of the program is to help NCSC researchers understand the vulnerabilities present in current technologies, the necessary mitigations, how experts conduct their research and what tools they use in the process.
“This successful work form increases NCSC’s ability to make VR and share virtual reality in the United Kingdom virtual reality ecosystem,” reads the press release.
The VRI central team will include technical experts, relationship managers and project managers, and the main team is responsible for communicating the requirements of the VR team to the members of the VRI industry and to supervise the progress and the results of the investigation.
In the future (near), NCSC will bring more experts to address vulnerabilities related to AI or otherwise related to AI. Those who are interested in participating in VRIs must communicate with the agency by email to [email protected]. The address should not be used to share vulnerability reports.
