- Update without loss of USB-C airpods is now available
- You will need iOS 18.4 to obtain the update of your maximum
- The instructions to verify the update are below
Apple has announced that the audio update without losses to Airpods Max with the USB-C launches today, along with the launch of iOS 18.4 for iPhone.
Apple revealed that the update of Airpods Max with personalized space audio without loss and without latency was previously arriving, but without an exact date, and here it is.
This is the first audio support totally without loss for a couple of Airpods, and provides support without loss of 48 kHz of 24-bit over USB-C, with the promise that this also reduces latency to effectively zero, which makes it excellent for production or audio games.
(The original Max Airpods were without loss, with support for wired connections, but through an active cable that took an analogical signal, it made it digital, then it turned it analog again into the headphones, so it is too much conversion to be a conversion to be really without loss).
Apple says that it can connect to a Mac, iPhone or iPad to obtain lossless audio, but we will verify if it also works with all other USB-C sources.
Apple has also finally launched its own 3.5 mm cable to USB-C, also to allow the AirPods Max with USB-C to work with analog audio output (making them work with plane entertainment systems finally).
How to make sure you have update
Airpods updates must be automatic, although Apple recently explained for the first time how to start the airpod updates if necessary.
I will need iOS 18.4 on your iPhone, and then follow these steps:
- Place its Max Airpods in the Bluetooth range of its iPhone, iPad or Mac, which must be connected to Wi-Fi
- Put your AirPods Max to load
- Wait 30 minutes
- Check if you have the new update
To verify if you have the update, place your airpods, open the configuration application, touch your Max Airpods, then move to the bottom and check if the version is read ‘7E99’.
Airpods Max with USB-C is still among the best wireless headphones despite its age, thanks to the strong sound quality (even at its high price) and tons of unique features for Apple users, including custom space audio, automatic change between Apple devices and finding my support.
However, we had to eliminate them from our list of the best travel headphones since the USB-C version arrived, due to their lack of cable contributions for plane trips. This update means that we could finally add them again.
