- AWS report reveals more than 90% plan to increase spending on IT, cloud and cybersecurity
- More and more applications are cloud-based
- Four out of five agree that the cloud exceeds their internal capabilities
New research from AWS has stated that companies around the world are planning to spend more money on technology, with more than nine in 10 planning to increase overall IT spending (93%), cloud spending (97%) and cybersecurity spending (90%).
However, there is a clear divide between how AI is perceived, with 23% seeing it as a security ally to enable more automated detection and 39% seeing compliance and security frameworks as the top risk priorities over the next three years.
However, the need to address the problem is clear: three-fifths (59%) of today’s applications are cloud-based, and that figure will increase to three in four (75%) within a year.
Organizations must prepare for an even more digitally connected world
For the most part, AWS found that participants agreed that the public cloud is better positioned to help them meet their future needs, particularly compared to on-premises solutions.
More than half agreed that the public cloud is better for security (56%) and compliance (51%), and four in five (81%) agreed that the public cloud exceeds their internal capabilities.
Interestingly, four in five organizations reported at least one data breach last year, affecting both on-premises infrastructure (78%) and public cloud (79%), suggesting that the risk comes from operational factors rather than the security of the environment itself.
Still, some obstacles remain preventing broader public cloud adoption, including integration issues with legacy applications and infrastructure, a view raised by two-fifths (38%) of organizations surveyed.
Naturally, cost (33%), digital sovereignty (29%) and skills shortages (25%) also influence apprehension.
“Trust in the public cloud is no longer defined solely by technical capability, it depends equally on transparency, reliability, and responsible conduct,” AWS concluded in its report.
