- Users report the automatic updates of the VMware workstation
- The error was caused by a URL redirection
- We do not know if it was intentional, but users should be on guard
According to the reports, the automatic update function of VMware Workstation is broken due to the Broadcom Redirection of the discharge URL to a generic support page.
TO Bleeping computer Report notes The program tries to connect to softwareupdate.broadcom.com/cds for updates, but the URL is redirecting support.broadcom.com, causing certification errors.
For now, users only receive an error message, and it is not clear if Broadcom is working on a solution for their VMware Workstation product.
“There was a certificate error when connected to the update server. Verify your Internet configuration or communicate with your system administrator,” says the error.
Although the Automatic VMware Workstation mechanism no longer works, users can still download and install manually updates from the Broadcom website, however, the change has frustrated users who did not receive any previous warning. It is not clear if the change is intentional.
In addition, the VMware workstation continues to function, but users who do not install updates could manually expose themselves to errors and other vulnerabilities.
A user said the problem began on March 24 and also affects VMware Fusion Pro. Another user replied: “A publication of a Broadcom employee in the Fusion community indicates that the software update infrastructure for their products has changed.”
Another wrote: “Broadcom, which now manages VMware products, has discontinued the product update function for VMware Workstation Pro”.
In the months and years after the acquisition of VMware, Broadcom has created a history of altering customers with important changes in the product portfolio and the price strategy.
Techradar Pro He has asked the company if he intended to finish automatic updates, but we did not receive an immediate response. Any update will be published here.
