- The TCA report states that ESIM shipments show an interannual increase of 35%
- ESIM profile discharges arose for 56%
- Despite ESIM growth, traditional SIM cards remain stable at 3.7 billion units
The new figures have affirmed that ESIM shipments reached 503 million units in 2024, marking an interannual increase.
The TCA report says that the growing availability of ESIM for international trips promoted consumer adoption, which led to a 56% increase in ESIM profile discharges.
At the regional level, North America saw the greatest adoption of ESIM consumer due to operators seeking ‘digital’ strategies and only ESIM devices available in the market. Meanwhile, Esits for Asia saw a double absorption in profile discharges, while Europe also experienced greater demand.
ESIM market growth
The data also suggest an improved economic panorama in 2024 promoted the demand for smartphones and mobile subscriptions, positively impacting ESIM growth.
“Our latest data offers the clearest demonstration to the point that ESIM technology is now taking advantage throughout the global digital economy, offering flexible connectivity, advanced security and improved experiences, said Bertrand Moussel, president of the Board of TCA.
The 5G SIM/ESIM market recommended also grew by 68% percent, since North America and Europe lead deployments. While there was an absorption in the adoption of ESIM in North America and Europe, the traditional SIM card market is still stable.
“As the ESIM ecosystem continues to expand to cover a variety of emerging use cases, so does the importance of collaboration throughout the industry to ensure that all implementations are backed by a solid base of trust, consistency and reliability,” Moussel added.
