Taipei: The United States Department of State has eliminated a statement on its website that it does not support Taiwan’s independence, among the changes that the island’s government praised Sunday as supporting Taiwan.

The Information Sheet in Taiwan retains Washington’s opposition to the unilateral change of Taiwan or China, which states that the island governed democratically is theirs.

But in addition to dropping the phrase “we do not support Taiwan’s independence”, the page has added a reference to Taiwan’s cooperation with a pentagon technology and a semiconductor development project and says that the United States will support Taiwan’s membership in Taiwan in International organizations “where appropriate”.

The United States, like most countries, does not have formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan, but it is its strongest international sponsor, bound by law to provide the island for the means to defend themselves.

“We oppose any unilateral change to the status quo on each side,” says the State Department website in the update published on Thursday. “We hope that cross -narrow differences will be resolved by peaceful means, free of coercion, in an acceptable way for people on both sides of the Strait (from Taiwan).”

Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-Lung, “welcomed the support and positive position on relations between the United States and Taiwan demonstrated in the relevant content” of the website, said his ministry in a statement on Sunday.

The State Department and the China Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately respond to comments requests outside office schedule.

Changes in language were first informed by Taiwan’s official Central News Agency Sunday. Taiwan Independence writing was also eliminated in 2022, before being restored a month later.

The Taiwan government rejects Beijing’s sovereignty statements, saying that only the people of the island can decide their future. Taiwan says that it is already an independent country called Republic of China, its official name.

Beijing describes Taiwan as his “central interest nucleus”, regularly denouncing any support show for Taipei of Washington.

Although the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has baffled Taiwan since he assumed the position last month with the criticisms of Taiwan’s domain when doing semiconductors, his administration has offered strong words of support to Taiwan.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a separate statement that a Canadian war ship, the Ottawa, had sailed through the Strait on Sunday.

The Canada National Defense Department did not respond to a request for comments.

Taiwan has faced an intensified military pressure from Beijing, including almost daily incursions due to Chinese combat planes and war ships in the island’s waters and skies.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense said Sunday had detected 24 Chinese military planes that carry out a “joint combat preparation patrol” along with Chinese warships around Taiwan.

The China Ministry of Defense did not respond calls for comments on the website of the State Department, the Canadian War Ship or the renewed military activity.
