- Third generation Xiaomi TV box has just landed silently
- There are several updates under the capo for the Google TV transmission rival
- These include a storage impulse at 32 GB, but the RAM remains the same in 2 GB
Google has its own Google TV streamer to show Google TV capabilities, but now there are several alternative boxes available by using Google’s large screen software, and Xiaomi’s offer has just received a couple of welcome updates.
The third generation Xiaomi TV S is now official (through Flatpanelshd), and there are some notable updates to speak. First, there is a new chipset on board: Xiaomi has not said what it is, but apparently it offers an impulse of CPU GPU/130% on the previous generation (it is probably the amlogical S905x5m).
Although RAM remains the same in 2 GB, there is also a very welcome storage impulse from 8 GB to 32 GB, with the triple fold increase, which means more space for its applications and games (the new Google TV devices must have at least 16 GB of storage, according to Google guidelines).
There are also Wi-Fi 6 for the first time, while the 3.5 mm audio port has been eliminated. The box again admits Dolby Audio, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ as before, while the video on HDMI can reach up to 4K to 60 paintings per second. We are still waiting for the availability and details of Xiaomi prices.
Can we have a little more, please?
The Xiaomi transmission box is now more in a couple of Google TV streamer, although it is likely that the 4GB of the latter instead of 2GB mean a softer and more agile experience in general, even with the impulse of the processor in the Xiaomi.
And, regardless of relative specifications, it is good to see more Google TV devices in the market. Walmart has its own 4K transmission box that runs Google TV, and is also standard on numerous televisions, including Sony’s flagship models.
More options is always good, giving us a variety of form factors to obtain our Google TV solution, unlike Amazon, Roku and Apple offers, where the hardware and software experience are closely linked.
We can only expect Nvidia to take some time to boost AI and GPU technology to build a new Nvidia shield driven by Google TV. We have not had a new Nvidia Shield streamer since 2019, but it is still a brilliant device for transmission, games and general technology tinking.
