There is no military alliance in the works: fo

Islamabad:

The spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan, highlighted the growing diplomatic profile of Pakistan in international and regional forums, including his assumption of the presidency of the United Nations Security Council (Consume), participation in the 17th Eco Summit and continuous efforts for humanitarian and legal responsibility in the region.

In complete weekly news information, the spokesman stressed: “Pakistan assumes the presidency of the United Nations Security Council in July with a deep sense of responsibility and purpose. Our approach will continue to be anchored in the principles of the UN Charter, multilateralism and international law.”

The spokesman announced that Pakistan will convene two high -level exclusive events, including an open debate about “promoting international peace and security through multilateralism and the peaceful dispute solution” on July 22, and an informative session on “UN cooperation with the organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC)” on July 24.

In addition, Pakistan will preside over the quarterly open debate on the issue of Palestine on July 23, all presided by the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, he added.

“These meetings reflect the intention of Pakistan to serve as a bridge between the Board and the broader members of the UN,” added the spokesman.

When commenting on any trilateral cooperation with China and Bangladesh, the spokesman described him as routine and focused on regional development, while dismissed the reports of a SAARC alternative as speculative.

The visit of Pakistani military officers to Bangladesh, including Rohingya areas, he said, was characterized as part of continuous cooperation without any change in Pakistan’s policy over Rohingya Muslims.

He confirmed that Pakistan was not forming any military alliance with other regional countries, including China, Russia, Türkiye, Bangladesh or Afghanistan.

The spokesman dismissed the speculation about Pakistan by joining Abraham’s agreements, reaffirming his unwavering support for a solution of two states and complete Palestinian status.

He mentioned that Pakistan expressed his disappointment for the Saarc Summit stagnated by a member. Islamabad reaffirmed its commitment to SAARC and the preparation to organize the next summit, he added.

The spokesman also welcomed a supplementary award issued on June 27 by the Arbitration Court in the Kishenganga and Ratle hydroelectric dispute between Pakistan and India.

“The Court reaffirmed its competence to continue the procedures despite the unilateral attempt of India to maintain the treaty of the Indo’s waters in suspense. This award claims the legal and moral position of Pakistan,” he said. “We call India to resume normal functioning under the treaty and completely honor its international obligations.”

He said that Pakistan rejected the denial of India of the supplementary award by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), which qualifies the position of New Delhi “illegal” and lacks legitimacy under international law.

The spokesman emphasized that the Treaty of the Indo waters remains operational and the prize reaffirms the Pakistan’s position. On whether formal communication to India has been carried out, Ambassador Khan said that the Ministry of Water was handling technical issues.
