- More details of Openai hardware plans have been leaked
- There could be multiple AI devices on the way
- The first launch could occur at the end of next year
We know that the Chatgpt Openai developer is working on hardware devices that will allow us to carry a chatbot of AI with us at all times, and a new report shows some light on the type of devices that we can expect to see.
The report comes from the information and indicates that smart glasses, a digital voice recorder, a portable pin and an intelligent speaker without screen are on the drawing board to some extent or another, although not everyone develops completely.
They are also included in the report some details about the hardware partners with whom Openai is working, and some of them, including Luxshare and Gertek, are companies with which Apple has also worked to develop devices.
Perhaps that is not a surprise given Jony Ive’s participation with the Operai projects, who was Apple’s chief for many years. According to the sources that talk about the information, several products executives also moved from Apple to OpenAI.
Soon next year … maybe
As for when we could see these devices, the goal for a launch is apparently late 2026 or early 2027, so there is still a time to wait. It seems likely that a single device will be launched first, and the others potentially continue with time.
All these new details chime with what we have heard previously about OpenAi hardware plans. It seems that the idea is to design something that complements our phones, tablets and existing laptops, instead of replacing them.
We have already heard of a laptop always on some description or another, which would be available to answer questions in the usual chatgpt style, as well as, perhaps, record voice memories and conversations for future analysis.
However, AI devices in this sense that we have seen before have not been a great success: consider the R1 rabbit and the human pin, for example. Operai’s team will expect them to do better.
