Thieves broke into a locked house in Karachi’s Lines area and stole jewelery and cash worth more than Rs 7 million, authorities said on Friday.
The family was attending a wedding at the time of the robbery.
The incident occurred in the Brigada police jurisdiction, in the vicinity of the former Macro Super Store.
Thieves attacked a house on Tunis Line, Water Ground Street, breaking locks and fleeing with valuables.
According to the police, forensic teams visited the scene to collect evidence and begin investigations.
Shoaib, the son of the house owner, said his family left home around 10 pm to attend a wedding at a cousin’s nearby residence. “We returned around 1:30 a.m. and found the locks on the doors and cabinets broken,” he said.
The stolen items include approximately 16 tolas of gold jewellery, Rs 3.2 million in cash and other valuables. Shoaib added that the money and gold had recently been withdrawn from a bank locker to finalize the purchase of a new house.
Police confirmed that no official complaint has yet been filed. “We will register a case and investigate thoroughly once the family submits a formal report,” an officer said.
Police recover ‘stolen’ jewelery
Last week, Rawalpindi district police arrested a thief and recovered stolen gold ornaments worth 12 tolas from his possession in an operation.
The Saddar Beruni police arrested the accused Muhammad Khalil, a local resident, who had stolen 12 tolas of gold ornaments from the house of a disabled citizen the previous day.
