In the completely fictitious hygiene lifestyle I like to imagine I lead, this speaker would fit the bill perfectly. It’s the life where I wake up naturally with the sun, drink warm lemon water with turmeric in a handmade stoneware mug, meditate for 20 minutes, write a gratitude journal, do a seven-minute workout, take a shower, I put on some clothes. From my perfectly pressed spring capsule wardrobe, add a pair of thick, fluffy socks and slide over to my reclaimed wood desk to quietly start the work day, with a refreshed and positive attitude. And this charming little speaker can be part of that discussion; is pinned to the mental mood board I like to call “Ordering My Life.”
Actually, curiously, a large Starbucks cup has been welded to my desk after a period of overtime late last week, where it sits motionless next to some leftover Christmas chocolates and at least six sticky notes with headings like “NOT YOU FORGET IT.” double underlined and ‘MUST DO IT BY THE 25TH!!’ to make my day easier. Such is life. But I’d say there’s still room for this speaker, and music is always a good starting point.
What you are seeing is Happy Plugs Joy; yes, that’s really his name. It’s not just happiness. It’s not just joy. It is the sum of the two, plus… plugs. In my imaginary aspirational hygge lifestyle, I would sit at my reclaimed wood desk, pick up my smartphone (with the tactile wool case I consciously knit that is definitely not leather and throws blue flecks all over the apartment), and aired some niche acoustic music. covers this speaker. I would do this while waiting for the lemon water to cool, so as not to jar my body unnecessarily.
Happy Plugs Joy in your life
I would like the green finish because it reminds me of Grogu, the Force-sensitive character adjacent to Yoda from The Mandalorian and The Boba Fett book. But whichever option you choose, this is a pebble-style speaker that wants to blend in with your luscious taupe tones, natural textures, and upcycled blankets.
It also lasts eight hours on a single charge and weighs just 192g, so you can throw it in your waxed canvas satchel, hop on your bike, and head to a nearby mountain stream to read that paperback you’ve been promising yourself. We will arrive from 2017.
It has Bluetooth 5.3 built in and, thanks to its IPX4 rating, it will also survive a light rain, and wouldn’t it look fantastic on Instagram on a cloudy day, perhaps next to that beautiful vintage fountain pen you got as a gift, a stainless steel one? Steel coffee pot and the cryptic crossword puzzle you’re trying to finish?
And it doesn’t take much to get the look. Happy Plugs Joy (or JOY, as it’s called in Happy Plugs marketing) is available now for just £39.99/$49.99 (or around AU$80), making it cheaper than almost all and each of the best Bluetooth speakers we currently recommend. , and the same price as the nice but not so pretty JBL Clip 5. Will the Happy Plugs option take its place? I’m not sure yet. But we’re working on reviewing it in its entirety, so when we know how good it sounds, you’ll know too.
Well, I’m going to recycle that Starbucks cup…
