- Disable Find My is taking up to one hour for some iPhone users
- It is an essential step before trade to a new iPhone 17
- The delay is part of the stolen device protection security function
The iPhone 17, the iPhone Air, the iPhone 17 PRO and the iPhone 17 Pro Max are available to collect in Apple stores from today, but some updates that exchange their existing iPhones are affecting a frustrating problem when they try to make the exchange.
In the core of the problem is the protection function of the stolen device entered to iPhones with iOS 17.3. This super safe mode is designed to deter thieves by placing a delay of one hour in any suspicious change that is carried out outside the trusted locations of a user.
Now, turn off the Find My follow -up service, which you have to do when trading on an iPhone, tells as a suspicious change, and an public apple store has as an unreliable location, which means that people have to wait an hour to deliver their old phones.
A Techradar reader told us that they had been beaten by this same problem in an Apple store, and that it was “havoc” the day of the launch. We have also seen long lines in the Apple Store in New York while people make the change.
Plan in advance
So, if you are Planning to exchange an existing iPhone for a new and brilliant, be sure to prepare everything before leaving home, even turn off Find My. As you are in a place of trust, iOS will allow you to do this without delay, with biometric authentication.
Keep in mind that this only applies if you have enabled the protection of the stolen device, it is not on default. You can verify if your own Apple phone has it on addressing iOS configuration, then Face and Password ID> Protection of stolen devices.
And if you are reading this while sitting in a tail in an Apple store, there is actually a solution: go to the Find My app application, open the information card for your iPhone, then touch Eliminate. You should then ask if you want to prepare your device for exchange, and you can enter your Apple password to confirm.
If you need more details, Apple has a complete guide on everything you need to do to exchange your old iPhone for a new one, including the disability of Find My. Do all that in advance and some time of time will be saved.
