Apple, the maker of the iPhone, is working on its own AI-enabled wearable device, supposedly a pin that users can attach to their clothing, equipped with two cameras and three microphones.
Information about Apple’s upcoming AI device came to light in a report from The Information on Wednesday.
As the rumor spreads in the vast AI wearable device market, it is expected to intensify competition in the sector.
The development was originally revealed by OpenAI global affairs director Chris Lehane, who stated at a Davos event that the company will announce its highly anticipated first AI hardware device in the second half of 2026.
There is also speculation that they may be a pair of headphones, TechCrunch reported.
Apple’s upcoming AI device is described as a “thin, flat, circular disk with an aluminum and glass casing,” designed to be about the size of an AirTag, but slightly thicker.
The device is designed to come with two cameras, one with a standard lens and the other with a wide-angle lens, to capture photos and videos.
It could also include a physical button, a speaker, and a Fitbit-like charging strip on the back.
There is a strong possibility that the tech giant is accelerating the development of this product, given that OpenAI is also working on its own artificial intelligence device. The device is likely to debut in 2027, with an initial launch of 20 million units.
Despite all that has been said, time will confirm how well consumers will receive these types of AI devices.
It reminds us of a similar AI pin, Humane AI, launched last year by two former Apple employees, but struggled to gain praise and consumer interest and eventually closed.
