- Jensen Huang and Satya Nadella dismiss fears of an AI bubble
- AI and robotics affect all industries, not just the technology sector
- New jobs could be created, but it is essential to improve skills and adapt
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has stated that humanity is seeing one of the greatest revolutions in human history thanks to artificial intelligence and robotics.
Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Huang dismissed fears of an AI bubble by stating that artificial intelligence is reaching all sectors; It is not just a term used in technology companies.
“The spot rental price is going up. Not just the latest generation, but also two-generation GPUs,” Huang argued in an interview with Blackrock CEO Larry Fink (via The Registry), in reference to the great scope of AI.
AI bubble fears
It has already been seen that artificial intelligence requires continued investment in data centres, but energy infrastructure is also under greater pressure than ever and the demand for skilled professionals is equally high.
Also speaking at Davos, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also ruled out an imminent AI bubble, noting: “I think a telling sign of whether it’s a bubble would be if all we were talking about were tech companies,” he said, highlighting the global and cross-industry reach of AI.
We are also seeing AI evolve into physical devices; Huang says robotics offers a “once in a generation” opportunity for European manufacturing.
Huang also made positive comments about the effects of AI on the labor market: he believes that “commercial crafts” will be vital for building data centers and infrastructure. “This is the largest infrastructure construction in human history and will create many jobs,” he said.
Nadella’s opinion diverged and focused instead on jobs affected by AI. He compared the current landscape to previous workforce trends, where prospective employees would have to demonstrate proficiency in various office software such as Word and Excel. Improving AI skills is just the next phase.
In short, it’s clear that both leaders see AI and robotics dramatically changing the way we view work, but how that translates into job creation or loss remains to be seen.
