- Patriott Memory MD330 Storage Hub offers 100W load and 4K output, all of a small USB-C port
- The storage rises to 1 TB, but the transfer speeds and encryption remain a mystery
- Handles video output and file storage, but reliability under pressure is not guaranteed
Patriot Memory has introduced the MD330 Storage Hub, a device that combines a unique set of capacities in a single unit.
The company says it offers high speed load, local storage and 4K video output through a single USB-C port, features that are rarely meet together, especially in a device that weighs only 21 grams.
This makes the MD330 less a refinement of existing accessories and more an attempt to redefine what a USB center or an coupling station can be.
Designed for adjusted workflows
The MD330 is connected through USB-C and admits the 4K screen outlet, with reflected and extended screen modes, and also offers up to 100W of power, which theoretically allows you to load laptops or hand consoles while connected to an external screen.
If this works reliably under sustained use, particularly with hungry devices of power, it is something that Patriot has not yet demonstrated completely.
These capacities are generally reserved for more bulky configurations, so there are questions about thermal management and power stability.
Beyond the video and the load, the MD330 integrates Flash storage, available in 128 GB to 1TB capacities, which converts the hub into a portable file for project media or files.
However, transfer speeds are not specified, and compatibility with encryption or file system is not mentioned, and without those details, it is difficult to determine if the storage is suitable for something beyond casual use.
The MD330 aims to simplify mobile configurations by combining an energy bank, a USB concentrator and a robbery on a device, but that does not guarantee consistent performance.
Executing screen output and power delivery at the same time could force the device, especially if file transfers are also in progress.
The way in which it manages the bandwidth and thermal load in these tasks will ultimately determine whether it is really useful or simply an overpromised accessory.
At the time of writing this article, Patriot has not revealed the price of MD330, a key detail that could greatly influence its appeal.
