I have spent a lot of time experimenting with the Chatgpt’s deep research function, and I have produced all kinds of strange (although complete) reports. However, there has always been a notable gap in its functionality so far. OpenAI has increased the deep research function with the ability to export its reports as fully formatted PDF. No more chatgpt links or screenshots necessary to share what I have learned about the George Lake Monster.
It is a small interface update, but it seems that it should have been incorporated into deep investigations from the beginning. This is how it works. You make your deep research report or one is extracted for some time, then click on the sharing icon at the top of the page. You will see that the usual button ‘Share the link’ now has a fellow download button like PDF ‘. A click and its report will be a completely formed PDF dot in your download folder.
This export option is not universally available at this time. You will need a subscription to Chatgpt Plus, Team or Pro. The users of the company and education do not yet have it, but OpenAi said it will arrive soon. That is good, since students and professionals are among which I would bet more would use deep research.

Yes, really. With the PDF in my hand, I put it in Gemini’s Nototebooklm, Google’s experimental research assistant. Suddenly, the AI was summarizing my deep research report, making cards and suggesting related reading. Then I tried to load the same PDF in a podcast tool and obtain a script of episodes generated by AI. What means, indirectly, Chatgpt became a content pipe. One that exports the investigation and lets other tools remembered it in any format you need.
And that is a big problem.
Because the more ia tools we use, the more we will need bridges between them. Operai does not need to be the application everything, but it must be interoperable. Of course, Openai’s implementation still has peculiarities. It is a bit confusing that the “Download as PDF” option is not in the Chat Share Main Menu. Most people will assume that they are not there unless they know where to click. And for a company whose complete launch is about reducing friction and increasing clarity, burying this behind a second sharing icon feels strangely outside the brand. Even so, I will take “slightly hidden but fully functional” on “completely missing” on any day.
More importantly, this change indicates something else: Openai is listening. Maybe not always quickly. Maybe not always intuitively. But enough people have clearly asked for this (or shouted about Reddit) that finally happened. And in a product panorama where most updates are felt as AI models that discuss who is better to summarize Aristotle, it is refreshing to obtain a characteristic that solves a real world problem.
