- Sneases Portable SSD Nano is smaller than a coin
- Weighing only 2.8 g, the unit is easy to transport and so easy to lose
- Reading and writing speeds are decent, but far from what advanced users could expect today
We have seen some impressively small SSD over the years, and some, such as the 1TB SSD buffalo, resemble a large flash more than traditional storage devices.
The portable Nano SSD, launched by Asahi Electronics under the Suntas brand, is a USB-C external SSD that weighs only 2.8 grams and measures only 10.6 x 20 x 13.5 mm.
There are a lot of rumors around the size and portability of this device, but that small factor is not all up. It is smaller than a currency, it could be easily confused with a candy sweets, and its toy appearance and its construction light construction pose valid concerns about the ease with which it could be out of place, or worse, accidentally ingest. For that reason, it is better to keep out of children’s reach.
It is not a replacement for larger SSDs so far
In spite of its small size, the unit has up to 512 GB of solid state storage, with reading speeds announced up to 450 MB/sys Writing speeds of up to 400 Mb/s.
While these figures do not place it among the fastest external SSDs in terms of gross performance, they are more than suitable for daily tasks such as document transfers, backup copies or transporting a multimedia file library.
When inserted into a laptop or mobile device, only 10.6 mm remains visible, which means that it is almost at the host device, a discreet and convenient design.
The unit uses a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface and is preformed in Exfat, ensuring compatibility with Plug-And-Play in a wide range of devices.
Compatible platforms include Windows, Macos, Linux, Android 14 and top, and iPhones and iPads with USB-C with the latest versions of iOS and iPados.
Despite the novelty, it is important to remember that this is still an impulse of relatively low capacity according to current standards. With a maximum capacity of 512 GB, it will not replace the high -end SSDs used for the creation or content game. But for pure portability, it is difficult to overcome.
