As a Techradar phone editor, my desk is flooded with accessories of all types of cases of cases. I have colorful cases of Casetify, Nomad leather boxes and sustainable cases of MOFT. I have Magsafe wallets, portable loaders and at least one accessory for each phone in our best phones guide. But until recently, I had never received a telephone cash made of human skin in my life.
Well, the properly called skincase is not in fact made of human skin (that would also be a bit Se7en), But that is Dressed in a synthetic material designed to see, feel and react to the elements as our birthday costumes, which, frankly, is as disgusting as the real.
This product is a creation of the United Kingdom O2 mobile network, researcher Marc Teyssier and British Skin Foundation, which have joined strength to raise awareness about the dangers of excessive sun exposure as temperatures rise in summer regions worldwide.
In essence, the skincase burns when exposed to UV rays, reflecting the harmful effects of the sun on our bodies. To present the case, Teyssier combined 3D printing techniques with flexible and silicone filament, and the surface is pigmented with specialized compounds that react to UV light. This combination creates a realistic simulation of sun exposure, which makes the effects of ultraviolet radiation surprisingly obvious. Look at it in the video below:
O2 says that skincase has been created to highlight significant disconnection between consciousness and behavior when it comes to sun protection. The Network indicates that more than half (56%) of the British verify their phones three times or more during the sunshy hours (11 am – 3 pm), but only one in five (20%) sunscreen with the same frequency. More alarming, almost one in 10 (9%) does not use sunscreen at all during these crucial hours when UV levels are stronger. I suspect that figures are equally condemnatory for US citizens.
To be clear: you can’t really buy the skincase. It is a limited career product that aims to be a conversation initiator, a visceral reminder that we must give as much attention to our skin as to our phones, instead of something that can buy and use.
That said, now I have one on my desk, so if you want it, you are welcome, although I will inform you to the police.
